The Sukhoi Su-30SM is a Russian two-seat multirole combat aircraft from the family derived from the Su-27. The crew sit in tandem, the aircraft has canards ahead of the wing and thrust-vectoring nozzles, which improve its agility. It is a large machine and its model in 1:48 scale offers room enough for fine accessory detail to come into its own on it.
Etched metal is thin metal sheet with a drawn-out relief pattern. It will replace the places where plastic is necessarily thicker out of production than it ought to be: grilles, loops, facets with a pattern, thin edging and similar elements that give the scale away on a model. The parts are held on the carrier fret by thin tabs and are separated from it only during the build. The extent of the set and the kit it allows for are given by the manufacturer in the instructions.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not with scissors, which will ripple the metal. Make the bends in a bending tool or between the jaws of straight pliers, always in one movement, because repeated bending fatigues the metal. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied with the tip of a wire; cement for plastic does not hold on metal. Before painting, wash and degrease the facets and lay on a base coat for metal, otherwise the paint will rub off the smooth surface.
The package holds photo-etched parts. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
