A photo-etched set for a model of the British Fairey Swordfish Mk.II biplane in 1:48 scale. The metal parts refine the exposed areas of the machine.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Swordfish has almost nothing hidden. The cockpits are open, you can see straight through between the wings and a whole row of features sits right on the surface. A machine like that gains the most from photo-etched parts: thin metal sheet makes it possible to produce parts that would have to be noticeably thicker in injection-molded plastic, and on the model you see the difference at a glance. The set is prepared for 1:48 scale.
The Fairey Swordfish was a British carrier-based biplane used for torpedo attacks and for reconnaissance, with its crew in open cockpits and with fabric covering over part of the airframe. It already looked outdated at the time it was committed, yet it served throughout the Second World War and wrote itself into its history with several successes. For a builder it is a rewarding subject: a busy surface, the bracing between the wings and the exposed areas all leave room for careful work.
Separate the parts from the fret with a sharp blade resting on a hard surface, and file the remains of the tab flush. Make the bends along the scored line, over a straight edge or in a bending tool. Use a tiny amount of super glue, or two-part epoxy on larger areas. Before painting, wash the metal, degrease it and give it a primer, or the finish will flake off when handled. With an open cockpit, bear in mind that it will still be visible once the model is finished, so it pays to spend time on the inner surfaces too and to assemble them before the fuselage is closed.
The aircraft model, paints, glue and tools are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
