Planet Models, a brand that specializes in resin kits of unusual subjects, brings to 1:48 a model of a Japanese rocket aircraft that never reached series production. It is a resin kit aimed at more experienced modelers; the name refers to project forms 1 and 2.
In the closing stages of the Second World War, as Allied formations closed in on the Japanese home islands, a string of desperate designs for homeland defense took shape in Japan. The word tai-atari denotes the tactic of deliberately ramming a target, and Yuyoku Funshindan can be loosely rendered as a winged rocket projectile. It was the concept of a miniature rocket aircraft whose only task was a steep attack on an enemy target. The project stayed on paper, which makes its rendition in a display case all the more interesting.
Wash the resin castings in warm soapy water before gluing so that the mold release residue disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and do the sanding with respiratory protection. Join the parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), and pin them where extra strength is needed.
The resin kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) and paints are not included.
