This is not a helicopter model but a detail accessory. The set contains a resin replacement tail rotor for machines of the H-60 family in naval form, that is for the SH-60B, SH-60F, HH-60H, MH-60R and MH-60S versions in 1:48 scale. It is used in place of the part from the plastic kit, where this area tends to be simplified because of the limits of the injection mold and the rotor blades are needlessly thick.
The tail rotor is a conspicuous feature on machines of the H-60 family. It has four blades, is mounted at an angle and, besides counteracting the torque, it also contributes to lift. The naval Seahawk versions differ from the army Black Hawk in a number of details derived from operating off ships' decks, and it is precisely the small parts such as the rotor head, the blades and their mountings that bring a model closest to reality. The set covers one such area without touching the rest of the build.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with detergent, so that the remains of the mold release agent disappear from the surface, otherwise the paint will not hold well. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a thin cutter; do not snap them. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. They are bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate); cement for plastic does not work here. A primer comes in handy before painting, and the rotor blades are then sprayed flat black with the leading edges exposed and warning stripes at the tips according to the particular machine.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
