The real subject

TARPS was a tactical airborne reconnaissance system that let the Tomcat carry out photo-reconnaissance tasks. The pod was carried at the rear of the fuselage and contained optical and infrared sensors. A model with this pod captures a less usual but historically documented form of the Tomcat in the reconnaissance role.

Use and fitting

• Wash the print resin residue off the parts and clean up the print supports.
• Glue with super glue (cyanoacrylate) onto the corresponding hardpoint.
• Verify the position of the pod against period photographs before gluing.
• Bring the sensor windows out with gloss varnish, and complete the body with lettering and fine weathering.
