A resin detail set in 1:48 scale for a model of the Westland Wessex helicopter. It is neither a model nor a kit, but a set of parts that lets you open the power unit up and show the tail section in the folded, shipboard position. Suited in particular to striking dioramas and open displays of machinery.

The real subject

The Westland Wessex was a British multipurpose helicopter derived from an American Sikorsky design, put into service by the navy and the land forces alike in the transport, rescue and anti-submarine roles. The folding tail made stowage on the decks of ships easier.

Contents and use

• Resin parts of the engine and of the folding tail section for an opened-up display.
• Wash the parts free of release agent, cut the casting blocks off and clean them up.
• Bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate); seat larger areas with forethought.
• Lay primer on before painting; the engine comes out well with washes and a dry brush.
