The set also includes a towbar, that is, the drawbar by which an aircraft being towed is connected to the tug. It is not a model of an aircraft but ground servicing equipment that will extend an airfield scene, a diorama or a display case with models in the same scale. It is a resin kit, and working with it differs from plastic, so we recommend it rather to more experienced modelers.
The Unimog is a universal off-road body carrier of German make that from the 1950s became the standard vehicle of armies, fire services, foresters and technical services. The U406 line belongs to the middle generation with portal axles, high ground clearance and drive to all wheels, thanks to which the vehicle manages both a paved surface and rough ground. The configuration with a double cab, designated by the abbreviation DoKa after the German Doppelkabine, carries further crew besides the driver, which comes in useful precisely with airfield servicing, where a whole group of technicians drives up to an aircraft. Airfield tugs of this type serve for moving aircraft around an apron, into hangars and to designated stands, that is, where an aircraft is not to move under its own power.
First wash the resin parts in warm water with detergent, so that the remains of mold release agent are removed from the surface, as otherwise neither primer nor paint will hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc, not with nippers, as the material is brittle and cracks. When sanding, work wet and protect your airways, as the dust from resin is not to be inhaled. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is, super glue; ordinary cement for plastic does not work. Try the assembly dry before gluing and straighten any bent small parts in warm water. Spray a primer, and only then the paint. Restrained weathering suits the vehicle, a dark wash into the joints and dust pigments on the lower parts and the wheels.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a kit in resin. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
