A model of the American M2 assault boat in 1:48 scale is a small engineer craft for dioramas and display scenes. It suits models and figures in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The small M2 assault boat, of the kind engineer units of the American army used to carry infantry across watercourses, reduced to 1:48. The 1:48 scale is popular with aircraft as well as with military vehicles, so the boat can be worked into a scene by a river, with figures or onto the bed of a truck.
The M2 was a simple assault boat for carrying a squad across a water obstacle. Engineers used it in the Second World War during river crossings, usually several at a time and with a paddling crew. The design was deliberately plain, so that the boat could easily be made, carried and if need be sacrificed. For the modeler it is a small object with a big effect on the story of a scene: on its own it suggests action taking place away from the model.
Separate the parts carefully, clean them up and wash them in warm soapy water before painting, so that the base holds well. Paint the inside of the boat before you cover it with a load or with figures — in a finished model you will not reach it again. A dark wash into the corners and between the benches suits the base olive shade, completed with fine drybrushing of the edges and of the places where the paint would rub off. For a water scene a suggested waterline, mud and dried water marks on the sides help. Even the surface out with a matte varnish at the end; fine scratches look better when they are irregular and only in exposed places.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
