Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the American M5A1 Stuart light tank in the popular 1:48 scale from Tamiya. The model stands out for the accurate fit of the parts typical of this line and for the faithful texture of the welded and cast hull and of the turret with its 37 mm gun. A metal weight, which gives the model a pleasing heft, and a commander figure are usually included; go by the instructions for the exact contents.
The M5A1 was an American light tank, the development successor of the M3 Stuart. It was powered by a pair of gasoline eight-cylinder engines and reached about 58 km/h. Compared with its predecessor it received a redesigned turret with a 37 mm gun, larger hatches and other changes. It proved itself a fast and reliable machine for reconnaissance and escort work; the British and Commonwealth crews nicknamed it Honey. It was used on most fronts of the Second World War.
The small scale speeds the build up, but it rewards care. Assemble and clean up the running gear and the tracks before closing the hull. Use liquid cement on the plastic, sand the joints after filling and apply primer. The basis is an olive green finish; dark washes into the recesses give it depth, a dry brush picks out the edges, and dust and mud pigments dust the lower hull and the running gear. Paint the commander figure separately and fit it at the very end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
