A decal sheet for five rebuilt carrier-borne fighter-bombers of the US Navy and Marine Corps from the years 1975 to 1981, among them machines of reserve squadrons and examples deployed from the deck.
Responsibility details are not available.
The version the sheet is devoted to did not come about on a production line from scratch. These were older carrier-borne machines put through a program of general overhaul, in which they were given more modern equipment and a lengthened airframe life. That got them into service well into the 1980s, mainly with reserve units.
There is a choice of five different machines with the serial number and unit stated. Two come from reserve squadrons of the Navy from bases inland and in California, one belonged to a reserve squadron of the Marine Corps from the East Coast and the remaining two served with squadrons deployed from the decks of aircraft carriers in 1976 and 1981.
The print covers the national insignia, unit codes, numbers on the fuselage and the lettering needed to finish any of the variants offered. The exact layout of the individual markings is shown in the instructions enclosed with the sheet. The differences between the individual examples are substantial, because every unit used its own combination of code and colors on the vertical tail, so the choice of variant decides the final look.
Decals hold best on a smooth glossy base, so first go over the model with gloss clear varnish and let it harden properly. Cut the individual markings out as tightly as possible, dip them in water only briefly and set them in place with decal softener, so that they settle into the panel lines. Once dry, seal the whole thing with matte or semi-gloss varnish, depending on which variant you have chosen. The model and paints are not part of the delivery.
