A colored display base for a model printed with the American flag, that is with stars and stripes. The load-bearing part is an acrylic board 3 mm thick and 410 x 270 mm in size, that is 41 x 27 cm, weighing 410 g. The board is stiff enough not to sag under a model, and its weight holds it in place even on a smooth shelf. The model is simply stood on it; there is no need to glue it or modify it in any way.
A flag under a model works differently from a base with sand or a concrete surface. It does not pretend to be a particular place but names the nationality of the machine straight away, and it therefore suits American aircraft, helicopters, vehicles and figures. It comes into its own in a display case, on a competition table and when photographing a finished model, where the colored background sets the model apart from the tabletop.
If the board is protected by a film, remove it only just before displaying so that the surface does not get scratched. Wipe dust and fingerprints away with a soft dry cloth; thinners and aggressive cleaners do not belong on acrylic, as they dull it and may damage the motif. If you want to secure the model against sliding, reach for double-sided adhesive pads, which can be removed without a trace. Place the model so that its footprint does not cover the most striking part of the design.
