A photo-etched set for a model of the U.S. Howitzer Motor Carriage M8 in 1:48 scale from Hauler. An accessory for a kit, not a vehicle model. Target kit: Tamiya.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of photo-etched parts for adding detail to a model of the American M8 self-propelled howitzer carriage in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit but an accessory for a model you already own. The photo-etched parts replace those plastic parts that cannot be made in the correct thickness in injection-molded plastic — on this vehicle that means above all the open turret and its interior fittings. Check the exact extent of the set and the number of parts against the illustration on the packaging. The photo-etched fret is cut for the Tamiya kit.
The Howitzer Motor Carriage M8 was created on the chassis of the American M5 light tank and carried a 75 mm howitzer in an open rotating turret. It served as a means of direct fire support for reconnaissance and tank units. The open turret is crucial for a model: you can see inside it, so every simplified or over-thick plastic part shows on it. That is exactly where a photo-etched set makes the greatest difference.
Degrease the fret before work and separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, not with cutters — the sheet would buckle. Make the bends in a bender or between razor blades, with a short decisive movement. They are glued with cyanoacrylate applied with a pin in a minimal quantity. Work from the inside of the turret outwards — once you close the turret up, you will no longer reach the interior parts. Use a primer suitable for metal before painting.
