The Vought Corsair is among the most distinctive American carrier-based fighters and its inverted gull wing cannot be mistaken for anything else. The F4U-4 version is a late development form which reached service in the very closing stage of the Second World War and went on serving in the Korean War as well. The cockpit of the Corsair can be seen into well with the canopy open, and on a model in 1:48 scale it is one of the places a viewer looks at first.
The set replaces hand painting of the cockpit with finished full-color items that have a raised relief. The instruments, the control panels and the labels are rendered in color straight from the factory, and the relief gives the surface a depth that a flat decal does not have. That does away with the most laborious part of the work on a cockpit, that is picking out the individual instruments with a brush and painting them in. The set is prepared for Hobby Boss kits in the scale given.
The exact procedure is in the manufacturer's instructions and it is worth reading before you set to work. Check in it above all whether the items are self-adhesive. The method of application differs between product lines, so set to work only once you are certain. The base under the items must be smooth and degreased, and all the relief of the instrument panel in the kit should be sanded off in advance. Seat the item with tweezers in two steps: first offer up the edge, then lower it, so that no air is trapped underneath.
