A Quinta Studio set in 1:48 scale for the Westland Sea King HAS.1 anti-submarine helicopter. These are neither resin parts nor photo-etch: it is a three-dimensionally printed and already painted interior laid on decal paper, which is applied in the same way as a decal. This is the compact variant of the set — the brand offers it alongside the full version of the same interior. The set is cut for the Airfix Sea King kit.
The procedure is that of a decal, not of assembly. Paint the surface under the decal first and polish it with a gloss coat, so that the element beds down without silvering. Cut the individual parts out with a sharp scalpel close to the edge, soak them in lukewarm water, slide them into place and press them down with a cotton swab. Do not use a decal softener or a setting solution — the chemistry attacks the printed resin and ruins the element beyond repair. The color printing also carries the fine drawing of the instruments, so the hand-painting of dials that takes so long in 1:48 falls away.
The Sea King HAS.1 is the British license-built version of the American Sikorsky S-61 helicopter, produced by Westland and adapted for the anti-submarine role with the Navy. The cabin of this machine is extensively glazed and the interior of the rear section is usually clearly visible through the windows, so an investment in detail really does show on the finished model.
This is an accessory, not a model of the helicopter. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package. The set is made for a particular kit in this scale — which one is given on the box of the set.
