A set of fine photo-etched parts from metal sheet intended for the additional refinement of a plastic model of the Yakovlev Yak-9 in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the aircraft, but an aftermarket accessory. It addresses above all the elements where injection-molded plastic runs into its physical limits: the instrument panel and the side panels of the cockpit, the seat belts, small levers, covers, meshes and sheet-metal parts that are supposed to be only a few millimeters thick on the real aircraft. The manufacturer is the Ukrainian company Metallic Details. The photo-etched fret is cut for the Modelsvit kit.
The Yak-9 was a Soviet single-engine fighter aircraft of mixed construction, one of the most widespread types of Soviet fighter aviation in the second half of the war. It was produced in a number of versions differing in armament, fuel system and range. The low-set glazed cockpit with a good view means that the interior is largely visible on the finished model, so refining the cockpit pays off.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, not with nippers. Make the bends slowly on a photo-etch bending tool or between two blades, as the sheet takes only a limited number of repeated bends. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) in a minimal amount, applied with a pin. Paint and fit the interior parts before closing the fuselage. Before painting, degrease the sheet and use a base color, as otherwise the paint does not hold on smooth metal. Try everything dry.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. It is not a complete model — the base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
