A bundled package of the Big Ed line from the Czech manufacturer Eduard for a model of the Yakovlev Yak-9D in 1:48 scale. Big Ed brings several separately sold accessory sets for one particular model together and offers them in a single box. It is not a kit of an airplane, as the base model has to be obtained separately. On the Yak-9 the accessories show mainly in the cockpit, where the machine has a fairly simple but clearly visible interior, and on the small exterior details that cannot be done in plastic.
The Yak-9 is a Soviet single-engine fighter of mixed construction, one of the most numerous Soviet fighters of the Second World War. The D version is the long-range variant with an enlarged fuel load in the wing, intended for escort work and operations over a greater distance. The design of the Yak was deliberately simple and easy to build; for a modeler that means a clean airframe on which the quality of the surface and of the interior stands out.
Cut the photo-etched parts off with a sharp knife against a hard surface and dress the cuts with a fine sanding stick or a file. Make the bends over a metal edge or in a photo-etch bending tool, as a straight bend cannot be made with your fingers. Do not sand the color printed parts and do not use strong thinners on them, as the print is sensitive. They are bonded with super glue in tiny drops; an excess turns white and is hard to remove in a finished cockpit. The cockpit of the Yak is usually in gray-green, so the printed parts fit into it easily, and if you are going to repaint the metal parts, do not forget a primer for metal.
The bundle is an accessory, not a kit of an airplane. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
