It is aimed at modern subjects: squad support machine guns on vehicles, firing positions and scenes with infantry. It is not a kit of a weapon or of a vehicle, but a partial element for a model you already have under construction.
It is the standardized rifle caliber of Western armies, introduced in the second half of the twentieth century. Besides assault rifles it is used by light squad support machine guns, which fire precisely from a link belt. That is exactly why this ammunition belongs to models from the last third of the twentieth century and later, not to the armament of the world wars.
Seat the belt where it can be seen: at an exposed weapon on the roof of a vehicle, in a box by a firing port or loose in the scene beside the equipment. Try the route dry so that the belt does not sag unnaturally. In terms of shade, a combination of dark metal on the links and a lighter tone on the cases themselves works. A faint flowing wash then adds depth and stops the surface merging into a single plane. If you are building a vehicle with an open crew compartment, allow for the rear part of the belt coming into view as well.
