A kit of the battleship Yamashiro in 1:700 scale from the maker Fujimi. The name gives two periods of the subject, the year 1941 and the year 1944.
Responsibility details are not available.
Fujimi has rendered the Japanese battleship Yamashiro so that the name of the item refers to two different periods of her service, the start of the war and the year 1944. Whether both forms can really be built from one box is stated by the manufacturer in the instructions and is not stated here. The 1:700 scale is the usual one for vessels of this size.
The Yamashiro belonged to the Fuso class and was famous for an exceptionally tall multi-tier mast, which in English is called a pagoda mast. It arose by the gradual addition of command and rangefinder platforms above an originally lower superstructure and gives the ship a silhouette that cannot be mistaken. By the time the war in the Pacific broke out the vessel was already obsolete and was used mainly for training. In the autumn of 1944 she sailed as part of the southern force into the Surigao Strait, where in a night action torpedoes and gunfire hit her and the ship sank.
The most demanding place is precisely that tall mast. It is made up of many small platforms and girders, which have to be glued in stages with drying time between the steps, otherwise the whole thing leans. Help yourself to an upright result with a simple square. Painting the mast is easier before gluing it to the hull.
The set contains parts intended to be glued and painted; it is not a finished model. Buy the chemicals separately, unless stated otherwise.
