A die-cut masking set from Omask for the Boeing B-17F bomber model in 1:48 scale. It serves to spray the US national insignia directly in paint, so the markings merge with the surface and do not create the glossy step a decal sometimes leaves behind. According to the name, this is the first part.
The F version was the most numerous variant of the Flying Fortress before the chin turret arrived. It was powered by four Wright Cyclone radial engines and you can recognize it by the fully glazed round nose. Machines of this series carried the main weight of the daylight raids over occupied Europe in 1942 and 1943.
Let the base coat cure thoroughly, transfer the stencil with tweezers and press its edges down carefully with a blunt toothpick. Apply the paint in several thin coats at a right angle to the edge, otherwise bleed will show up under the mask. Remove it before the coat has dried completely, and do so slowly at a sharp angle. Around the edges of larger shapes it pays to go over them with a hard rubber squeegee so the film seats even in the engraving.
