The decor is based on the decorative tiles laid in kitchens, pantries, on verandas and in the entrance halls of family houses. The floral motifs repeat in a regular grid and in color they are on the muted side, so they will not overpower the figures or the hardware you put on the base. The format stated is 190x130 mm.
A decorative floor gives away at once that this is a lived-in space, not a store or a workshop. In scenes from a derelict house it works well to leave part of the area clear and bury the rest under rubble, pieces of furniture or soil blown in from outside. The resulting contradiction between comfort and ruin is one of the strongest means a scene builder has to hand.
A paper base takes water-based paints only in thin layers, so weather it with pigments and a dry brush rather than anything else. Under the feet of furniture and in the corners a darker glaze works well, because that is exactly where dirt collects most. If you want to wear the pattern away in places, go over the area with fine abrasive paper; the print rubs through and reveals worn spots. Work carefully, as the color will not come back. Choose a firm base under the sheet, ideally thin plywood or a thicker card board, so the finished area does not warp as it dries.
