An extended set of masking stencils of thin kabuki paper for the F-35B Lightning II model in 1:48 scale, cut for the Tamiya kit with the part number 61127.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-35B Lightning II is the rendition of the Lightning II for short takeoff and vertical landing. Behind the cockpit it carries a lift fan and at the rear a swiveling nozzle, thanks to which it does without a long runway and can operate from short decks and from improvised surfaces. Compared with the other members of the family, this version also has cover doors above the fan and further differences in shape to watch out for during the build.
The masking stencils are cut from thin kabuki paper. That adapts well to curves and leaves a sharp edge once removed, because paint does not seep under the edge as easily as with ordinary adhesive tape. The set is cut for the particular Tamiya kit with the part number 61127, so the shapes fit without lengthy trimming. The extended rendition goes beyond the basic set; the exact list of masked areas is given in the enclosed instructions.
Stick the stencils onto a clean, degreased surface before spraying and press the edges down carefully, above all where a flat area runs into a curve. Apply the paint in thin coats at a right angle to the edge of the mask so that it does not get underneath. Take the masks off as soon as the paint is dry to the touch; after a longer time they peel away less easily. Any adhesive residue can simply be wiped off with a soft cloth.
For modelers who want the glazing and the color transitions sharp without laborious cutting of tape. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
