A printed sheet with the German lozenge camouflage pattern in the five-color version for the lower surfaces of a model. The name does not give the scale; the sister sheets of the same line are made for 1:32. The artwork is rendered as faded fabric: the shades are muted and the texture of the fabric as well as a slight irregularity of the overprint is visible across the surface.
The colors of the decal are backed with an opaque white layer. A thin layer of color is always translucent to a degree, and on a darker finish the shades shift or disappear altogether. With a white base the pattern stays rich even where the surface of the model is dark, and you do not have to spray a light area beforehand for the decal's sake. The price of that is a somewhat stiffer film, which follows sharp edges less well.
Lozenge is a pattern of polygonal fields which at the close of the First World War was printed straight onto the covering fabric of German aircraft. It saved the laborious spraying of camouflage and broke up the outline of the machine at a distance. The lower surfaces were given a lighter set of shades than the upper ones.
It is a wet decal. Prepare the base smooth and glossy, otherwise a silvery veil will appear under the film. Divide the sheet into strips by the seams of the covering and leave them a small overlap. Leave the piece in lukewarm water only until it can be moved, transfer it to a dampened place and press the water out with a soft cloth from the center outward. With the stiffer film with a white base, count on adhesion into the engraved lines wanting more softener and more patience. Once dry, varnish the surface over.
The box holds the printed sheet. The model, paints, glue and softener are not included, unless stated otherwise.
