An accessory set for converting a de Havilland Mosquito model to the Mk.XVIII version, nicknamed Tse-tse, in 1:48 scale for Tamiya kits. The code identifies it as an AML set.
Responsibility details are not available.
The de Havilland Mosquito was a British twin-engine aircraft of largely wooden construction that handled reconnaissance, night fighting and attacks on ground targets. It was powered by a pair of Merlin engines, that is V12 units. The Mk.XVIII version nicknamed Tse-tse was unusual among Mosquitoes: in place of the usual nose armament it received a 57 mm gun with automatic ammunition feed. It served over the sea against surface targets, where one accurate burst from a safe distance did more than fire from quick-firing weapons.
It makes it possible to build this particular version from the Tamiya kit in 1:48 scale, which does not offer it as standard. The conversion concerns mainly the forward fuselage, because the massive barrel and its mounting change the aircraft's silhouette most of all. Which parts the set contains and how they are fitted is stated by the manufacturer in the instructions.
Test the parts dry against the kit first and only then cut anything on the plastic, because the material will not come back. Cut the excess away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the remainder. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Leave the long barrel to be glued on right at the end, as it breaks off easily while the model is handled. The right glue depends on the material of the parts, so follow the manufacturer's instructions.
For more experienced modelers who want a less usual Mosquito version in the collection and are not afraid of cutting into the kit. The parts of the set are what is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
