The package contains two castings of the Italian M33 helmet and two separate cockades with them, that is, exactly the element by which the Italian helmet is recognized at first glance. The large scale makes it possible to follow even small relief.
The Elmetto Mod. 33 replaced the older Italian helmet derived from the French pattern and served the Italian army throughout the Second World War and long afterward. It has a deep smooth shell without a projecting rim, a slightly drawn-in edge and a low silhouette, so it is distinguished from the German and the British shape even at a distance. A cockade or a painted badge on the front carried the designation of the branch of service: the infantry, Alpine troops and armored units each had their own. The helmet was used by units fighting in North Africa, in the Balkans and on the Eastern Front.
The cockades are separate small pieces, so cut them off only just before gluing them on and work over a work mat from which you can easily pick them up. Spray the shell with the base gray-green first, finish the cockade with a brush and finally protect it with a spot of varnish. A matte surface matches field condition better than gloss; keep a satin sheen only for the ceremonial version.
Neither the helmets nor the cockades are painted, and a figure is not sold with them.
