The insignia sheet 1:16 Paint Masks Set For Pz. Kpfw. IV Ausf.J Insignia And Numbers serves for spraying crosses and tactical numbers onto a model of the last production version of the Panzer IV tank.
Responsibility details are not available.
The sheet carries national crosses and numerals for a large model of the Ausf. J version. It is cut from a thin semi-transparent tape, which can be laid again after gentle removal and which leaves no staining on the finish. The extent is calculated for one model in a large scale, where the demands on precise placement of a marking are noticeably higher than in the small scales. An unevenness that would disappear in 1:72 catches the eye here.
The Ausf. J came about in 1944 as a simplification of production: the designers deleted the auxiliary generator for electric turret traverse, so the crew had to traverse the turret by hand. The space freed up was taken by a larger fuel tank and the vehicle's range grew longer. Vehicles from the late batches received wire mesh skirts instead of solid plates, which changed the placement of the tactical number once again.
Use the semi-transparency of the tape to line the number up by the rivets or the edge of a hatch. Apply the paint in a thin layer, because an accumulated coat will create a step around the marking. Once the mask is removed you can lightly sand the edges with the finest paper. Scuffing the marking and light dusting will then make it blend into the rest of the finish.
