Masks for the national insignia and fuselage numbers of the twin-float Arado Ar 196 in the version of Bulgarian naval aviation, 1:48. One sheet; the duck emblem is missing.
Responsibility details are not available.
The twin-float Arado Ar 196 served during the Second World War with Bulgarian naval aviation as well, and the crews nicknamed it the shark. The set of masks brings the national insignia and part of the fuselage numbers of these machines, but the emblem with the duck is not part of it.
Bulgaria had twelve of these aircraft at the seaplane base Chayka not far from Varna. The task was above all reconnaissance of the coast and escorting vessels, for which the slow but persistent machine was better suited than a fast fighter. The Arado was otherwise known mainly as the shipboard aircraft of German battleships, from which it took off by catapult. The Bulgarian examples flew out their time over the sea and their color appearances are documented today only in part, which has marked the contents of this set too.
The manufacturer included only those numbers for which photographic documentation exists, so the set of marking is not complete. The semi-transparent base makes it easier to align an insignia by the engraved lines underneath it. Do the insignia work only after the base finish has dried and press the mask down even where it passes over riveting. The missing duck can be supplied only by a decal of your own or by hand painting.
