A set of masks for a model of the Mi-24D attack helicopter in 1:48 scale. The masks are stuck onto a cleaned surface before spraying and keep the edge of the spray sharp.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mi-24D is an attack helicopter of Soviet design which, besides the armament on its stub wings, can also carry an assault squad in the rear cabin. The D version has a reworked nose with two separate cabins stepped one above the other for the gunner and the pilot. It is precisely this part that is the most conspicuous on a model and at the same time the most laborious, because the glazing has a lot of small fields and frames. Besides the Soviet Air Force, Mi-24D machines flew with other users including the Bulgarian Air Force.
Masks for a model of the Mi-24D in 1:48 scale. The purpose of masks is a sharp edge of the spray without laborious cutting out of tape, which on small shapes you can hardly shape precisely anyway. The extent of the masking and the recommended order of steps are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The masks belong on the model before spraying, not after the paint has dried. First wash and degrease the surface, so that a mask adheres across its whole area. When sticking them on, press down above all the edges; under an edge that has not been pressed down the paint will run and the transition will fray. Spray several thin layers rather than one generous one, because a heavy application breaks and peels at the edge of the mask. Take the mask off while the paint has only flashed off, and pull it at an angle across the edge, not straight upward.
For modelers who build the Mi-24D in 1:48 scale and do not want to spend an evening cutting tape out by hand. It is an accessory for a kit you already have; prepare the paints and glue separately, unless stated otherwise.
