Two sheets of camouflage stencils for the single-seat Northrop F-5E in a large scale. The scheme corresponds to one of the desert combinations which the aggressor squadron VFC-13, nicknamed Saints, carries, and it is usable for most models of this type.
The desert scheme of the VFC-13 squadron came about as an imitation of the coloring that MiG-21 and MiG-23 machines carried in the Afghan conflict. The aim is not to merge with the landscape but to teach crews to recognize and track an opponent who looks different from their own aircraft. The squadron is among the most photographed units of US Navy aviation of all.
In a large scale the color fields are extensive enough for the stencil to be laid part by part and at leisure; at the same time, however, an unsuccessful transition is hard to hide. Keep to the rule of the lighter tone first, spray at right angles to the edge of the mask and do not hurry with varnishing until the whole scheme is finished and dry. Desert tones come across flatter on an extensive area than on a small model, so once dry it pays to enliven them gently with a dust shade in the places where service grime settles on the real machine.
The package does not contain a kit or paints.
