A set of three acrylic paints in 22 ml bottles, put together for painting the black uniforms of German tank crews. The point of the set lies in the grading: a black uniform cannot be painted with black paint, because a scaled-down surface without shading merges into one flat patch and the figure loses its shape. The set therefore contains colors from which the base, the shadow and the highlight can all be built.
Start with the darkest color over the whole surface, then add the mid tone on the areas turned toward the light, and use the lightest color to pick out the edges of folds, the collar and the shoulders. Never treat pure black as the final color. In small scales the differences between the colors should be greater than you would expect, because they collapse optically on a reduced surface. Shake the bottles before use; the paints are acrylic and thin with water or with the thinner of the same brand.
