Orange is the color that even someone who takes no interest in racing associates with McLaren. That is exactly why a model builder must not cut any corners on it: the saturated warm tone is the recognition mark of the car and any deviation toward red or ocher shows at once. The McLaren Classic Orange shade is mixed ready to use, so you do not have to work your way toward it by mixing your own, and when you touch the finish up you hit it again.
Stir the bottle thoroughly before work; the pigment settles to the bottom when standing and unstirred paint changes both tone and gloss. Apply in several thin coats; one heavy coat floods the engraved panel lines and the edges. Orange inherently has weaker coverage, so over dark plastic it looks dirty and uneven. It is worth laying a white or light gray base under it, on which the shade comes out in full saturation and you manage with fewer coats. For thinning and cleaning your tools use the product recommended in the manufacturer's instructions; a foreign thinner can curdle the paint into grains.
Spray large bodywork areas in a single series and at the same distance of the gun, so that the gloss and the shade do not differ from part to part. Before applying decals let the paint cure thoroughly, not merely dry to the touch. Even the final look out with a clear coat, with which you choose the degree of gloss and at the same time sink the edges of the decals into the surface.
For builders of racing cars and formula cars who want the shade exactly as the real thing has it, and for anyone who finds a use for a saturated orange elsewhere. The paint is supplied on its own; the thinner, the brushes, the varnish and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
