The real subject

The standard jerrycan of the German armed forces is one of the best thought-out pieces of field equipment of its day. The twenty-liter container has three handles side by side, so that one man can carry two at once, one in each hand, and when passing them on the next man takes hold of the free handle. The sides are pressed into a cross, which stiffens them and at the same time leaves the contents room to expand. The closure with its folding lever opens without tools and has no loose screw cap to lose. The design was so good that other armies adopted the shape after the war as well.

Building and painting tips
