A kit in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker SabreKits. It is an injection-molded model of the short-run type with fine surface engraving, supplemented with photo-etched parts and a 3D-printed exhaust to raise the detail of the cockpit and the exterior alike. The subject is the little known but elegant Czechoslovak fighter Avia B.135.
The Avia B.135 was a Czechoslovak fighter that followed on from the Avia B.35. The fundamental change from its predecessor was a retractable landing gear, which allowed higher speeds with the same engine. The production machines never entered the armament of the home air force - a small number of them was delivered to the Bulgarian Air Force, where these aircraft served during the Second World War. Apart from the prototypes only a handful were built, which makes the Avia B.135 a rare subject of collector interest.
With short-run kits, reckon on more careful preparation of the parts - it is a good idea to clean up the edges and the ejector marks and to dry-fit the parts before gluing. Join the plastic with liquid modeling cement and fix the photo-etched and 3D-printed pieces with super glue. Apply a base coat (primer) and paint with an airbrush. Bulgarian camouflage comes into its own once the panel lines are picked out and discreet weathering is added.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
