A small stainless steel vise with smoothly guided jaws that are tightened with the fingers. It will hold a tiny molding, a photo-etched part or a piece of wire while you sand, drill or solder it.
Responsibility details are not available.
This precision stainless steel clamp deals with a situation familiar to anyone who builds in small scales: the part is smaller than a fingernail, a drill or a file is nevertheless supposed to go into it, and holding it in your fingers means risking that it ends up on the carpet. The body is machined, the jaws meet in parallel over their whole area and are tightened by a screw with a knurled head, so the pressure rises evenly and can be stopped exactly where the plastic is not yet protesting.
Its own weight holds the tool on the tabletop without your having to steady it. It proves itself when deburring miniature moldings, drilling exhausts, sanding down sprue nubs, tinning wire control rods and gluing photo-etched buckles, where you need one hand free for the tweezers and the other for the glue.
Recommendation for use: steel is considerably harder than polystyrene, so back a thin-walled shell with a strip of paper or thin card. Resin castings will stand only light tightening, otherwise a mark is left at the point of the grip which then has to be sanded out. After soldering, let the clamp cool before you put it away, because metal holds heat considerably longer than the plastic handle of an ordinary holder.
Storage is undemanding: a dry drawer and an occasional wipe with a cloth are enough.
