New Ware masking set for the MiG-19 P and PM in 1:72 scale

The set contains pre-cut masks of kabuki tape intended for a model of the MiG-19 fighter in the P and PM versions in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit and not add-on parts but an aid for painting, which covers the cockpit glazing and other areas that are to stay free of paint. According to the product name, the set is intended for the Clear Prop kit.

The BASIC level and what to expect from it

The manufacturer divides the sets by extent into BASIC, ADVANCED and EXPERT. BASIC is the basic variant aimed at the main glazing and usually at the wheels as well, while the higher levels add further masked features. For an ordinary box build, where the main job is to separate the canopy frames and the tires from the hubs cleanly, the basic extent is usually enough.

The real subject

The MiG-19 was the first Soviet production fighter capable of level supersonic flight. The P version was an interceptor, equipped with radar in the nose, which showed in the shape of the air intake. The following PM version was adapted to carry air-to-air guided missiles. Both variants differ from the basic day fighter precisely in the layout of the nose, so before sticking the masks on it pays to compare the shape of the canopy with the parts of the kit.

How to work with the masks

• Degrease the glazing and let it dry
• Lay the masks on with tweezers, without stretching them
• Press the edges down with a toothpick so that no paint runs under them
• Spray in thin coats and let each coat set
• Take the masks off shortly after the paint has dried

This is an accessory to a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
