A resin cockpit interior for the early versions of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190A in 1:72 scale, prepared for the kit from the Czech maker in Prostejov.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190 appeared over the English Channel in its first production form in the autumn of 1941, and British fighter units had trouble with it at once. The BMW 801 radial engine, the wide landing gear track and the agility in rolls made the new opponent an unpleasant surprise. The A-1 to A-4 versions differ from one another in armament and in details of the engine cowling, but the layout of the cockpit stayed much the same.
The cast cockpit replaces the simplified interior of the kit and brings relief that an injection mold cannot manage: an instrument panel with raised instrument bezels, side walls with levers and runs of piping, a seat and the controls. Under an open hood more shows in this scale than one expects, and the difference from the original part is clear at first glance.
Count on having to sand part of the inner fuselage walls away so that the insert lines up. Test-fit dry as you go, take the material off in thin layers and check whether the fuselage halves still come together without force. Painting is easier before the part is glued in, so deal with the places that will later be out of reach right away.
German cockpits of the period carried a gray-green shade, and the instrument panel tended to be darker. Saturation is helped by a dry brush on the edges and by picking out the dials with a drop of gloss varnish.
The brand also offers an improvement for the landing gear bay of the same machine, so the detail can be taken all the way in both of the most watched places. The two sets together turn a simple model of the early version into a replica that stands up to a close look and to the competition table.
