About product

Black Hawk wipers 1:35, a resin detail by Quickboost (Aires) for the Academy kit

This is NOT a helicopter kit. It is a detail accessory, a set of resin windshield wipers for a model of the Sikorsky UH-60 / MH-60 Black Hawk in 1:35 scale. The manufacturer states them as a direct replacement for the parts from the Academy kit. The model itself, glue and paints are not included in the package.

Why wipers matter

A wiper is a thin, long, flat part, and that is exactly the shape injection-molded plastic cannot do. A mold needs a certain minimum thickness, so the part from a kit tends to be coarse, thick and blunt, or is missing from the box altogether. Yet the wiper sits right on the windshield, at the most exposed place on the whole model, next to the cockpit, where the eye goes first. A thick wiper gives away at once that you are looking at a model. Resin manages a thin, crisp profile in realistic proportion, so this is a small part with an out-of-proportion visual effect. On helicopters that goes double: the Black Hawk has large cabin glazing and the wipers are visible on it from every angle.

Usage tips

First wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent; mold release agent clings to the surface of resin and paint will not hold on it. Cut them off the casting block with a saw (a razor saw or a hobby knife with a saw blade), never snap them off, as a thin wiper breaks easily. Sand wet, because resin dust is harmful to health and must not be breathed in. Resin does not bond with cement for polystyrene (that dissolves plastic, and here there is nothing to dissolve), so use super glue (cyanoacrylate) or two-part epoxy. Fit the wipers at the very end of the build, after varnishing and flatting; they are small and easily broken off or lost.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the 1:35 Academy Black Hawk who want a realistic cabin.
  • Modelers looking for an improvement with an immediately visible effect.
  • Those who photograph a model close up, where the wipers are impossible to miss.
  • More experienced builders used to working with resin and super glue.

This is an add-on resin detail set, not a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a detail accessory, resin windshield wipers on their own. The Black Hawk base kit has to be bought separately.

The manufacturer gives it as a replacement for the parts from the Academy kit in 1:35 scale. On other kits it is worth comparing the dimensions and the shape beforehand, as it need not fit.

Yes. The wiper sits right on the windshield beside the cockpit, the most closely watched place on a model. A thick plastic wiper shows at once, while a thin resin one lends the model scale credibility.

With super glue (cyanoacrylate) or epoxy. Cement for polystyrene has no effect on resin. Wash the mold release agent off the parts before painting and cut them off the casting block with a saw.
