Volume number 56 of the English-language Warpaint series by Tony Butler, devoted to the British carrier machines Blackburn Firebrand and Firecrest.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Blackburn Firebrand came about during the Second World War as a carrier fighter for the Fleet Air Arm, but its development dragged on and the machine finally found use in a different role, as a heavy torpedo attack aircraft. It never took any marked part in the fighting of the Second World War and its service fell in the post-war years. The Firecrest was the development continuation of the same idea and remained at the prototype stage, so it never reached series production. Together they are a pair that never settled in on the decks of aircraft carriers, which makes them all the more interesting for modelers and for anyone drawn to the dead ends of aviation development.
The publication came out as number 56 of the Warpaint series. That series is monographic: one volume keeps to one type or one closely related pair of types and ties a continuous text to period photographs and a picture section. The author is Tony Butler and the text is in English. For modelers the most valuable part of such a publication tends to be the pictures: period photographs show the machine in its working state, that is with the wear, the equipment and the small features that a kit simplifies or leaves out.
For modelers looking for sources on less usual British naval aircraft, and for readers with an interest in the development of carrier aircraft. This is a printed publication; a model, decals and building material are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
