Seat belts for the British ejection seat of the 1950s, printed on a carrier sheet and transferred onto the part as a decal. In 1:32 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
Mk.4 series ejection seats were standard equipment in British jet aircraft in the 1950s and 1960s. They were fired by a cartridge charge, and the pilot was held to them by a system of shoulder and lap belts brought together into a single quick-release buckle on the stomach. To that belonged one more strap that prevented him from slipping out under negative g. It is exactly that tangle of straps that brings an open cockpit to life, and in 1:32 scale it is one of the first details a viewer notices on a finished model.
The belts are printed with the texture of the fabric, the stitching and the fittings, so there is no need to fold fine photo-etched pieces and paint them. They transfer onto the seat as a decal, which is the fastest way to get convincing equipment into a cockpit with no risk of a tiny part disappearing into the carpet.
Cut each belt out on its own and soak it in lukewarm water for a few seconds only. The surface it is to settle on must be smooth and preferably glossy, because a white haze shows up easily on a matte area. A decal softener helps the decal cling to the curves of the seat shell and to the edges of the backrest. Let everything dry thoroughly and only then unify the whole thing with a matte varnish, or the fabric will look unnaturally glossy. If a belt will not settle onto the edge of the shell, hold a damp brush against it for a moment, let the material soften and only then press it down. A small tear caused by stretching is hidden by a thin line of paint in the shade of the strap.
