The Dino 246 Red shade from Number Five comes from the paint of the Dino 246 GT, a six-cylinder coupe of the turn of the 1960s and 1970s.
Responsibility details are not available.
The shade belongs to a car that was sold under the separate Dino marque and did not carry the horse badge on its hood. Even so it is one of the most admired shapes of its time, and its red is among the classic Italian tones of the turn of the 1960s and 1970s.
The Dino 246 GT was built from the end of the 1960s to the middle of the 1970s. It carries its name after Alfredo Ferrari, nicknamed Dino, and the number in the designation matches the displacement of the engine and the number of cylinders: it was a V6 of just under two and a half liters mounted transversely behind the crew. Pininfarina drew the shape of the body and Scaglietti built it, and the rounded flanks, the curved rear pillar and the recessed rear window are among the most quoted lines of Italian design. A variant with a removable roof joined it later. In its concept the car was the forerunner of the brand's later V8 coupes.
It aims at modelers of classic Italian road cars who want the red of that particular era rather than a modern or a racing tone. Its forerunner was the two-liter 206 GT with an aluminum body, of which only a few dozen examples were made, so the shade aims mainly at the later and more widespread 246 GT. The factory designation of the paint of the real subject is not declared for the shade, and because the cars were supplied in several shades of red, take the color as a representative choice for the type.
