A nut with a washer and a shank one and three tenths of a millimeter across. A dimension that in 1:35 covers the anchor of a towing eye and in the large car scales an ordinary joint on a frame or an engine.
Responsibility details are not available.
The decision on what to attach this detail with falls before the first touch. Surer than a thin glue for plastic tends to be a cyanoacrylate gel: with a pinhead you apply a minute drop at the place the nut is to go, and only then seat it there with tweezers. Anyone who dips the casting usually ends up with glue all over the hex and the edges disappear under a white bloom that can no longer be sanded away.
In 1:35 this value corresponds to a joint forty-five millimeters across. Nuts like these hold the anchors of towing eyes, the pins of rollers and the flanges of heavy gearboxes. In 1:16 it works out at a twenty-one millimeter bolt, that is an entirely ordinary dimension on a frame as well as on an engine, and in 1:12 at just under sixteen millimeters. The larger the scale, the more universal this grade is.
Once dry, check the gap around the washer. If a surplus has been squeezed out of it, remove it with the tip of a toothpick before it hardens completely; later only careful scraping with a blade held square will help. Only a clean circumference of the washer will give, after the paint is sprayed, the shadow for which such details are added to a model. In large scales that difference is noticeable even in a photograph taken hand-held.
