An injection-molded plastic kit of the German medium tank Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf.N in 1:35 scale from Academy. The set captures the vehicle in the form used by the Afrika Korps - the German units committed in North Africa. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
In the first half of the war the Panzer III formed the backbone of the German tank units. The Ausf.N version is unusual in that instead of a long anti-tank barrel it carried the short 7.5 cm KwK 37 L/24 gun - the same type as the early Panzer IVs. It served to support infantry and to destroy fortifications, not for tank duels. Afrika Korps vehicles operated in the desert from 1941 to 1942 under Rommel's command, where extreme heat, sand and dust awaited them.
We recommend starting with the running gear and the hull and only then closing the superstructure. Glue the short gun and the small parts (lights, hatches, fittings on the hull) with liquid cement for plastic and a light touch. For this vehicle the desert painting is the key: a base in sand or yellow (typically Dunkelgelb or sand shades), followed by heavy wear - dust, a finish faded by the sun and abrasion from sand. Washes into the recesses and pigments for dust and mud effects on the running gear and the lower hull are suitable. Rather check the particular period camouflage scheme and markings against the real subject before spraying.
