A model of the BMW M3 Touring wagon with the works designation G81 and M Performance parts, the 2022 model year, in a mint green shade. A collector's rendition in 1:64 scale, supplied finished.
Responsibility details are not available.
It took from 1986 to 2022 before the M3 series got a variant with a large trunk. The designation G81 belongs to precisely that one. Under the hood works the S58 inline six-cylinder with a displacement of three liters and two turbochargers, the output runs to around five hundred ten horsepower and the power goes to all four wheels. That this car came about at all was a small revolution in how the brand sees a family car.
The epithet in the name refers to the carbon composite accessories offered by the manufacturer: the front splitter, the side skirt trims, the mirror caps and the rear spoiler. On the real car it is a visible reworking of the silhouette; on a model in 1:64 it is a test of whether the maker can set a glossy black part apart from the green paint.
A body over four and three quarter meters long gives a model around seven and a half centimeters. What can be followed on it is the shape of the flared fenders, the prominent vertical front grille, the glazing of the side windows with their frames and the line of the roof rails, which on a wagon settles the whole impression. A miniature that cannot manage this looks like an inflated sedan.
The piece comes assembled and painted and goes straight into a display case. That is exactly why 1:64 is collected by the dozen: a collector can stand several model years or color versions of one series side by side without running out of room, and still keep legible detail.
