Replacement horizontal stabilizers for an F-16 model in 1:32 scale. On a model the tail surfaces are among the parts where simplification shows most: the trailing edge should be thin, the leading edge smooth and the whole part should sit true. Separately made surfaces meet those demands more easily than a surface glued from two halves, which also needs its seam sanded back all the way around.
The F-16 has all-moving horizontal tail surfaces; they are not divided into a fixed part and an elevator but pivot as a whole. On parked machines they are therefore often not level, and photographs frequently show them deflected from neutral. It is exactly this small point that a separate part lets you set to match the aircraft you are building.
Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder back so that the root sits against the fuselage with no gap. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Choose the glue to suit the material of the parts and fit both surfaces at once while the glue still allows movement, or the difference in angle will show on a finished model when seen from behind. It pays to paint only after they are seated, so that no edge of paint is left at the transition of the root. You will find the exact sequence in the manufacturer's instructions.
For builders of large F-16 models who care about the silhouette. It is an accessory for a kit; paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
