Responsibility details are not available.
This Flyhawk model captures the American guided-missile cruiser USS Bunker Hill with the Aegis system as she was in 1991, that is at the time of the operations in the Persian Gulf. For modern surface ships, 1:700 is the most widespread choice of scale. It offers a sensible balance between the size of the finished model and the amount of detail, thanks to which a coherent collection of the postwar navy can be built from it.
The Ticonderoga-class cruisers were created as carriers of the Aegis combat system, which was able to track and engage a large number of air targets at the same time. Their characteristic feature is the fixed phased-array radar panels on the superstructures. USS Bunker Hill is one of the units that received vertical launch cells instead of the older twin-arm launchers, which fundamentally widened both the mix and the number of weapons carried. The silhouette of the ship from the early 1990s therefore differs clearly from the first units of the class.
A modern warship in 1:700 stands on a clean hull and on small superstructures, so take care over cleaning up the seams. Apply the paint thinly, ideally with an airbrush, and set the decks apart from the sides of the hull. The radar panels and the antennas will come out after a light dark wash. Railings and fine fittings on ship models are usually added with photo-etched parts, which are bought separately. The model looks fine on a display base with a suggested water surface.
