Artwox Model 1:700 a wooden deck with masks and photo-etched parts for the battleship Bismarck replaces an engraved plastic deck with real veneer with printed planks. It is an accessory to the Revell 05098 kit, not a model.

This combined package brings together three things that with ship models are most often bought separately: a self-adhesive deck of wood veneer with the laying of the planks printed on it, a masking template and photo-etched parts. It is not a kit, but an add-on accessory to a plastic model. The cut-outs match the Bismarck release from Revell 05098, so please check the match before ordering.
The key is not to peel the protective film off all at once. Uncover only a few centimeters at a time, bring the veneer up to the longitudinal axis of the deck and lay it from there step by step toward the sides, pushing the air out with the pad of a finger or a soft wooden spatula. Work from the center outwards and from the stern toward the bow in one direction, not jumping back and forth. If a bubble appears, prick it with the tip of a knife and press it down while the adhesive is still pliable. Keep your hands clean, as fingerprints show up on light veneer at once.
Once it is laid, let the deck rest for a few hours so that the adhesive settles, and only then deal with the edges. Level any that overhang carefully with a sharp blade led along the edge of the hull. The shade is tuned with a stain or with heavily thinned oil paint, and the gaps between the planks are picked out by a dark wash. A light coat of matte clear is enough at the end. Even after clear coating the wood keeps the irregular grain that engraved plastic will never give.
This is not a kit. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
