The 1:700 scale is the most widespread for warship models, so the model fits in well among the other vessels in a collection. The Akizuki class was a group of Japanese destroyers from the Second World War period. They differed from older destroyers in their focus: the main armament consisted of dual-purpose guns able to fire at air targets, so the vessels were built above all as escorts for formations against air threat. A larger displacement category and a longer hull than on the preceding classes matched that. The ship had two funnels and superstructures arranged so that the gun turrets had the widest possible field of fire. For a modeler it is an interesting type precisely for the combination of a slender hull and markedly different armament from ordinary Japanese destroyers.
First make up your mind whether you will build the model as a full hull or at the waterline, because that also determines the form of the base. Paint the deck and the superstructures separately and join them only once dry, otherwise masking is awkward. Fine elements such as the masts, the railings and the radars are always coarser in injection-molded plastic than in reality; anyone who wants to go further adds photo-etched parts. The gray shades of a ship's finish are brought to life by a fine wash into the recesses of the deck and a light suggestion of rust at the hawse pipes and the drains.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
