About product

The Japanese destroyer Fubuki 1:700 - Tamiya (Waterline Series)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese destroyer Fubuki in 1:700 scale from the Waterline range of the maker Tamiya. The Waterline version shows the ship down to the waterline, so once it is built the model looks like a vessel on the surface. The package holds the plastic parts and decals; the model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

The Fubuki was the first of the so-called special type destroyers of the Imperial Japanese Navy. For its time it was a revolution: a massive hull with a high freeboard, powerful twin 12.7 cm guns in enclosed turrets and a heavy torpedo armament made it the pattern for a whole generation of fleet destroyers. It served in many operations of the Second World War.

Building and painting tips

Seat the hull cut at the waterline on a flat surface or a stand; finish the torpedo tubes, the guns and the fine features separately and paint them before fitting. The railings can be replaced with photo-etched parts from the accessories. Realism is added by toning with wash paints into the recesses of the deck and by a gentle shading of the superstructures.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1:700 scale
  • Ship modelers from beginners to the advanced
  • Builders of sea-surface scenes and harbor dioramas

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The glue, the paints and the accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It was the first special type destroyer of the Japanese Navy and its armament and design were ahead of their time, which made it the pattern for further destroyers.

The model shows the ship only down to the waterline; it stands on a flat surface and looks as if it were sailing on the sea.
