A kit of the Japanese destroyer Yukikaze in 1:700 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi. It is an injection-molded plastic model in the Full Hull version, that is, with the whole hull including the underwater part, meant for display on a stand. In this scale a destroyer is a fairly small model, which makes clean gluing and fine painting all the more important.
The Yukikaze belonged to the Kagero class, that is, to the fast escort destroyers of the Imperial Japanese Navy with heavy torpedo armament. The ship took part in an exceptional number of operations of the Pacific war and, as one of the few large units of her kind, came through the war practically without serious damage, which earned her a reputation as a lucky ship. After the war ended she served for a number of further years under another flag and under the name Tan Yang. The combination of a combat career and an unusual fate has made her one of the best-known Japanese ships of her category.
A small model gives away every excess of cement, so use a thin liquid cement applied into the joint on the tip of a brush. Sand the parting line of the hull wet with fine paper and check it against the light. Fit the torpedo tubes, the guns and the boat only after the hull and the superstructures have been painted. The model gains a great deal from photo-etched railings and fine booms, which are supplied separately. The particular shades of the Imperial Japanese Navy differed according to the shipyard and the period, so keep to the scheme in the instructions.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
