The third item of the numbered harbor range for scenes in 1:700 scale. At the moment a diorama grows beyond a single base, it stops being mere background and becomes a subject in its own right. This set is a building block of such a project: it adds another piece of shore infrastructure without disturbing the consistent scale of the whole.
When you are assembling a harbor from several parts, lay the whole plan out on paper first. Decide where the water's edge will run, where the passage will be and where there is room for an open handling area. Only then place the individual sets, because moving a pencil line is easier than unsticking a part that has dried. It also works to leave one corner of the scene half empty, otherwise the diorama becomes visually overloaded.
A harbor is a place of work and it ought to show. Suggest worn tracks with a thin darker line where vehicles would repeatedly have driven, and leave the edges by the water dirtied from the waterline upward. At 1:700 rust is not painted over whole areas but as small dots by the metal elements, otherwise you get the impression that the whole harbor has rusted through. Finally, even the surface out with a matte varnish and add fine dust.
The set leaves the layout of the scene and the choice of vessel entirely to the modeler.
