A plastic kit of the American Piasecki HUP-1 utility helicopter in 1:48 scale from AMP. The tooling is modern and newly developed, and it is backed up by photo-etched parts, masks and resin parts of the powerplant. The decals let you finish the machine in US Navy markings. The mix of materials puts the set among projects for more advanced modelers.
The Piasecki HUP Retriever was a compact helicopter with two main rotors in tandem and a single radial engine. It served with the US Navy on rescue, liaison and transport duties, among them plane-guard work during carrier launches and recoveries. The HUP-1 was one of the first production versions of the type.
Wash the mold release residue off the resin parts and cut off the casting blocks; glue them with cyanoacrylate. Paint the cockpit and the interior before you close up the fuselage, and mask the glazing with the supplied masks. Lay down a primer and spray the color with an airbrush. Seat the tandem rotors carefully so that they line up. A panel wash and restrained wear give a shipboard machine a convincing in-service look.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
